MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

Mission

The United Against Torture Coalition (UATC) is a broad based coalition of organizations and individuals that work together against the use of torture in the Philippines by raising public awareness through public events, supporting the drafting, filing and lobbying of the Anti-torture Bill, and campaigning to have the Optional Protocol to the UNCAT ratified. The UATC is working towards eventually coming up with an alternative Convention against Torture Report.

Objectives

To raise public awareness on the prevalence of torture in the Philippines through regular public events.

To support the drafting, filing, and lobbying of theAnti-torture Bill to the Senate of the Philippines and House of Representatives.

To campaign for and lobby to the implementing executive departments of government, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the President, the prompt ratification and effective implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).

To draft and submit an alternative Convention against Torture Report to the United Nations.
